My TOP 5 INDEPENDANT MAGS FOR THE VISUALLY CREATIVE

Strolling the cobbled streets of Bath one soggy lunch break (quickly giving myself an internal telling-off for yet again forgetting my brolly) and there it was, the white signage up ahead...  MAGALLERIA, I race up the hill and catapult through the door, never having been one for a quiet entrance.. and finally gain shelter from rain. And there I am,,, in my ELEMENT.

For those who've not heard of this terrific hangout, let me enlighten you. Magalleria is an in-store & online independent magazine boutique based in Bath, stocking high quality and thought provoking publications from the UK, USA, Europe & frankly, pretty much every corner of the globe.  They have something for everyone, from travel, design, art, fashion, gardening, food, beauty etc. The hardest part is choosing what to walk away with... I try my best to avoid the allure of interior design magazines. The likes of Design Anthology, My Residence and Attitude are my usual go to's, however I want my inspiration to be somewhat abstract. Tempting as it is to spend hours flicking through imagery of impeccably designed spaces, I find focusing on other people's designs is not necessarily going to help me in having organic thoughts at the initial stages of a project.

So without further ado, I've curated a little list of my top independent magazines that have been a source of inspiration over the last few months; some compliment my personal style, others push the boundaries, but all of them....suggest a new way of thinking.

The magazine showcases fashion and fine art photography, with all content being shot on film.

We believe that analogue processes allow us to slow down, which brings new weight to our choices and leaves us more open to chance.

To the same degree, we never employ any beauty retouching to ‘enhance’ a model’s skin or body shape.

These approaches all feed into the PYLOT aesthetic, creating something with energy and a direction that thrives on collaboration
